The Colusa County Fairgrounds is ramping up efforts to make this year’s Pumpkin Village better than ever.
The event, which has been shortened to four weekdays (Oct. 22-25) for school field trips, and one weekend (Oct. 27-28) for the public, is on schedule with not just returning favorites like a carnival, pumpkin patch, and speedway, but the popular event will have a number of new activities for the entire family, organizers said.
The annual Pumpkin Village will be open to the public with free admission from 10 AM to 4 PM the last weekend in October, said organizer Araceli Plaza, but Pumpkin Village has added its first ever after hours event on Oct. 27, with live music, adult beverages, a costume contest for youth, pets and adults, and all the other activities.
“The evening event is going to be great,” Plaza said. “Buck & Sadies will have burgers, hot wings, and fries, and there will also be beer and wine available.”
The after hours party will also include live music by “Cousin Kids,” featuring Kevin Briggs.
Pumpkin Village will also feature events like the corn cannon, petting zoo, tomato train, carnival rides, hayrides, and pumpkin bowling, among other things.
Plaza said Gina Moresco has designed and built three new exciting activities, including a foam shooting gallery, a monster ball toss, and witches brew basketball.
Although admission is free, activities can be enjoyed either by purchasing individual tickets or by purchasing a “Spookley Wristband” that allows unlimited access.
Volunteers are needed for the event to work in shifts from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM during the weekday events; from 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM on Oct. 27, and from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Oct. 28.
“We especially need volunteers to work during the week,” Plaza said. “And we need volunteers that can drive a tractor or operate the corn cannon.”
For more information or to volunteer, contact Plaza at the Fairgrounds Office, 458-2641 ext. 106, or email@example.com. You can also contact Plaza to pre-register for the costume contest, or register from 4-6 PM prior to the contest at the Pumpkin Village Country Store.
First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded for best adult costume, best kids costume, and best pet costume. Pets must have current rabies vaccination and be wearing their I.D. tags to enter. ■
