Colusa High baseball, softball programs get big donation

Sandy Ottenwalter and granddaughter Lexi Hernandez present Colusa athletic director and baseball coach Eric Lay and softball coach Jamie Lay with a $9,000 check, which Ottenwalter Showpigs donated to their athletic programs last week.

Two of the Colusa RedHawks’ spring programs are the beneficiaries of a big donation, made by Mark and Sandy Ottenwalter and Ottenwalter Showpigs.

The Ottenwalters made a donation that totaled about $9,000, which will be split between the school’s baseball and softball programs. Athletic director and baseball coach Eric Lay and softball coach Jamie Lay accepted the check from Sandy Ottenwalter and her granddaughter, Lexi Hernandez – a junior at Colusa High School and a member of the RedHawks varsity softball team – at the Ottenwalter Showpigs facility in Colusa last week.

Eric Lay said that the Ottenwalters have, for decades, been huge supporters not only of Colusa High School athletics, but sports programs (and more) county-wide.

“Mark has always been big on sports,” Sandy Ottenwalter added. “He believes in supporting your children, whether its in sports, FFA, or anything else that keeps them busy and off the streets.”

Lay said that he was extremely grateful for the donation, which will allow the baseball team to completely renovate their batting cages and to purchase a new pitching machine. The softball team will use their portion for batting cage renovations, as well as for the purchase of new equipment and for field maintenance.
