Colusa County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Colusa man last week on suspicion of criminal threats, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and attempted murder.

Deputies arrested 45-year-old Manuel Estrada Valencia, 45, of Colusa, on the 3400 block of Highway 45, north of the City of Colusa, at around 9:24 PM on Oct. 23, according to Colusa County Jail records. According to Colusa Police Lt. Eldon Tamez, investigators believe that the shooting happened at that same location, a few days prior to Valencia’s arrest.

Local law enforcement officials were made aware of the shooting on Oct. 19, when the Rideout Emergency Room in Marysville called the Colusa Police Department to notify them that they were treating a possible shooting victim from Colusa, who had possibly been shot in town the night before. Colusa Police officers began investigating, and determined that the shooting happened outside of their jurisdiction, and the case was forwarded along to the Sheriff’s Office.

“(Initially, the victim) claimed he went to Quick Serv (in Colusa), that he walked out, and evidently it was dark, and he was just shot in the face and didn’t see anything,” Tamez said. “After some investigation, it was determined that the guy was lying, and that it actually happened out on Highway 45.”

In the course of their investigation, the Sheriff’s Office was able to obtain statements from the victim – a 38-year-old man who suffered gunshot injuries to the face – and a witness before locating and arresting the suspect.

“Our detectives and Task Force took over case, did interviews, located the subject and then arrested him that evening, the day it was handed to us,” Lt. Mark Contreras.

Contreras added that investigators have yet to locate the weapon used in the shooting, and added that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Sgt. Jose Ruiz at 458-0200.■
