What’s your plan? (10/31/2018)

It was a good day to have a car show but better yet, it was a good day to be at the car show. 

It was a day that the Arens household aims to achieve but always seems to come up a bit short. Last year it was a family affair for us. All three of the Girls had ties to the Pierce Band program; one with the high school and the other two with Johnson Junior High. Between the performance and the fundraising, it becomes quite hectic and a tad bit exhausting. 

This year the youngest stayed faithful to the cause; performing and raising funds for the band program. The middle child assisted with her FBLA peers with selling drinks to help fund their activities. 

If you aren’t familiar with FBLA, it stands for Future Business Leaders of America. And the oldest, chose the good part and looked to the needful. I’d say that we were at the top of our game. Time to raise the bar. 

I want to thank all of you who came out and made the Arbuckle Car Show a success. Apologizing for my prejudice, but a special thanks to those that purchased sweets (bake sale) and supported the JJH Band.

I can only image the number of man hours an event like this requires to pull off while a successful one requires that much more. 

Many of the topics presented in WYP? would have been involved as well as many more that I will feature later. My thoughts turn to how do they find the time to do it? Priorities probably and goals with good goal setting skills. But I would venture to guess that these people have great time management skills. How did they get there? Just like they did in their early years, one step at a time. There are only 24 hours in a day, 168 hours in a week, and 8760 hours in a year. 

What do you do with your time? Have you ever used a Time Chart? Start with a typical day. I don’t know too many people that specifically do one thing perfectly for exactly one hour. But I have come across attorneys who have billed by the minute. For our case, let’s use 30-minute blocks to organize our time. I’ll give you the following categories to track: sleep, eat, travel, work, study, family, personal, leisure, and church/volunteer. 

This is my challenge to you this week – Fill in the blanks. Take a typical day and designate all 30-minute intervals with one of the categories we are tracking. Identify the activity and write it into the block that took up the most time for that time interval. At the end of the day, add up the total time spent for all the categories. Remember that the total hours must add up to 24 hours? You can’t have any more or allow free time. I’m out of space. We’re not quite finished here so look to continue next week.
