Freeman Roberts (1941-2018)

Freeman Alexander Roberts of Colusa passed away on November 5, 2018. He was born in Kanakanak, Alaska on December 1, 1941, to Freeman and Helena Roberts.

Although Free was born and raised in Alaska, he made his homes between Alaska, Hawaii, and California over the past 30 years – leaving many good friends and memories in his wake. He was proud of his service in the US Navy. He was a licensed merchant marine captain, Alaskan bush pilot, and commercial salmon/halibut fisherman. He captained on luxury yachts for big game fish out of the Kewalo Basin in Honolulu for over 15 years. Being trustworthy he was sought after and worked as crew or captain on many boats in the harbor even while being there on vacation.  His passion during this period was taking children out fishing as a volunteer for the Make a Wish Foundation.  He was also proud of being a top producer for the catch, tag, and release of big billed fish.  He enjoyed traveling by air, sea and RVing around the US and the world, flying, hunting, golfing, reading, surfing the net, genealogy, stirring up heated discussions on politics and religion on Facebook, spending time and story-telling to all his family and many friends gave him joy, above all he loved his dog Bruno.

Free is survived by his wife of 55 years Emily Roberts, sons; Keith (Katherine)  Roberts of New Stuyahok, Alaska, Freeman (Julie) Roberts III of Wasilla, Alaska, daughters; Karen Johnson of Anchorage, Alaska, Audrey Roberts of Wasilla, Alaska, sisters; Audrey Rearden of Homer, Alaska, Blanche Kallstrom of Dillingham, Alaska, brother; Lanny Andree (Ruth) of Homer, Alaska, grandchildren; Britni (Matt) Nevin, Michael Carty, Freeman IV, Shannon & Jordon Roberts, Stone & Christian Wilke,  Rikki & Olivia Johnson,  William & Emily Roberts, great-grandsons; Noah & Mason Nevin and Owen Knox Carty.

He was preceded in death by his parents Freeman and Helena, brother; William Owen, sister; Jacklyn Fonnesbeck, son-in-law; Richard Johnson.
