Walnut Grove man dies after suffering heart attack on I-5

A 52-year-old Walnut Grove man died on Saturday after suffering a medical emergency on Interstate 5.

According to a press release from the California Highway Patrol, the man was traveling on southbound Interstate 5, just north of the Fairview Road over-crossing in Colusa County, at around 2:22 PM on Nov. 24, when he experienced a medical emergency and became unable to control his vehicle, a 2000 BMW.

The vehicle drifted off to the right side of the road and onto the dirt shoulder, slowing as it traveled across the shoulder until it came to a rest against a perimeter fence. Personnel from the Maxwell Fire Protection District, the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol, and Enloe EMS arrived on scene and performed life saving efforts, but the man, identified on Monday as Wilbur Harold Dixon III, did not recover and passed away on scene.

Dixon was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

Colusa County Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Contreras said that the Coroner’s Office was conducting an autopsy on Tuesday, and that the department could not comment on the nature of the medical emergency until after the autopsy is completed. ■
