Girls Basketball: Redhawks tame the Lions

Edith Moreno looks for break in the Lions defense last Friday night.

Last Friday night, the Colusa Lady Redhawks brought home a win in Live Oak with a 39-27 final score.

The Redhawks opened up with a 12 point run on the Lions, holding Live Oak to just two points for a 14-2 lead.

Both teams struggled finding net in the first half. Colusa’s offense was held to just three baskets by the Lions in the second quarter but was still enough to secure the lead 20-10 before the half.

Colusa came out in third quarter focused on getting the ball inside as Live Oak’s defense focused on stopping the Redhawks. Colusa put a total of 15 points in the third with contributions from  Abigail Huskey and Annie Lay, each swishing a 3 point Field Goal towards a 35-20 score.

Colusa held Live Oak to 10 points in the third quarter, but the Lions came back to out score the Redhawks in the fourth, allowing them just four points on the board. Time ran short for the Lions as Colusa claimed the win, 39-27.

“The girls had a great start to each half and used that momentum to hang on for the win,” said Coach Townzen.

Carly Lay dominated the offense for Colusa with 10 points and five rebounds. Huskey added eight points and four rebounds towards the Redhawk win.

Colusa suffered a loss to Willows last Tuesday with a 33-67 score. They travel to Winters on Friday for a conference match-up against Winters with game play at 6:30 PM. ■
