Just a week after the burial of Pierce’s own Natalie Corona, her sister Kathy Corona was crowned the 2019 Basketball Homecoming Queen. Natalie earned the same honor her senior year in 2014.
“I just can’t believe it,” Kathy said. “I feel so honored to receive this.”
After crowning ceremonies, the Pierce Bears tipped off against the Willows Honkers, Friday night and was victorious with a 73-37 win.
Arbuckle’s Daniel Medina started the game with an eight point contribution to end the first quarter with a 10-6 lead. The Bears offense out shot the Honkers going six for six at the hoop, placing 12 unanswered points on the board.
Jonathon Corchado banked on a three-pointer before the half giving the Bears a 35-13 lead.
Controlling the scoreboard and never relinquishing the lead, The Bears allowed the Honkers just eight points in the fourth quarter to their own 16, giving Pierce their second win over the Honkers this season, 73-37.
Medina led the Bears in point with 22 total of the night. Corchado swished four 3-point Field Goals and a single hoop for a total of 16 towards the win.
Arbuckle travels to Colusa tonight for a conference match-up at 7 PM. ■
