Boys Soccer: Colusa wins Reading Christian, and Los Molinos

The Colusa boys soccer team hosted Redding Christian, on Tuesday, Feb. 29, i, and came away with a 5-0 win. 

The RedHawks scored their first goal 5 minutes in on a shot from midfielder Ulises Galvan, assisted by Victor Hernandez. Next it was Hernandez scoring Colusa’s second goal at the 10 minute mark, with an assist from midfielder Dominic Garcia. Colusa forward Alejandro Rico would find the back of the Lions net, to go up 3-0, 11 minutes in, assisted by Victor Hernandez. 

Hernandez wasn’t done scoring for the day when he booted in the RedHawks 4th goal at the 23rd minute, assisted by midfielder Edgar Garcia. With just seconds left in the first half Colusa would go up 5-0, on a shot by Edgar Garcia, unassisted. The 5-0 score held to the end of the match. 

Colusa had strong defensive play from fullbacks Leo Guzman, Diego Avila, Saul Velez and Nicolas Lopez. Colusa goalkeepers Omar Huerta and Leo Guzman each had 2 saves in each half. The RedHawks now stand at 8-4-3 in SVL play and are 9-4-3 overall. 

The Colusa Boys Soccer team made the trip up to Los Molinos on Thursday, Jan. 31, and came away with a 5-1 league victory. 

Colusa would jump on the scoreboard fast with their first goal going in at the 1 minute mark on a shot by midfielder, Dominic Garcia, unassisted. Next for Colusa was forward Alejandro Rico booting in the RedHawks 2nd goal at the 16 minute mark, assisted by fullback Jesus Hernandez. Colusa midfielder Edgar Garcia found the back of the Bull Dogs net on a nice corner kick to give Colusa a 3-0 lead at the 24th minute. Alejandro Rico kicked in his 2nd goal, Colusa’s 4th, at the 28th minute, with an assist from Dominic Garcia. 

The RedHawks 5th goal was kicked in at the 30th minute, this time scored by forward Victor Hernandez, assisted by Edgar Garcia.

 The 5-0 score held to the half. The RedHawks dialed it back in the second half, and Los Molinos would score their lone goal on a penalty kick at the 47th minute of the game to bring the score to 5-1. This score would hold to the final whistle, giving Colusa the Sacramento Valley League win. 

The RedHawks had strong defensive play from fullbacks Leo Guzman, Jesus Hernandez, Saul Velez and Nicolas Lopez. Also playing well were midfielders Cesar Dominguez, and Ulises Galvan. Goalkeepers Diego Avila and Omar Huerta had good outings, with Avila having 4 saves in 60 minutes of work and Huerta with 1 save in the remaining 20 minutes. Colusa now stands at 9-4-3 in league play and are 10-4-3 overall. 

The RedHawks will be very this week, with 4 more league games to get in, Tuesday away with Esparto, Wednesday away with Redding Christian, Thursday home with Durham and Friday away with Hamilton City. ■
