The RedHawk Boys Soccer team traveled to Esparto on Tuesday, Feb. 5, for an SVL match and came away with a 4-1 loss. Field conditions were not in favor of either team, but Esparto would score 3 goals in the first half, and 1 in the second half. Colusa’s goal went in at the 40 minute of the first half on a shot from midfielder Cesar Dominguez, assisted by Ulises Galvan. The final score of 4-1 held to the end of the game.
Colusa Goalkeeper Diego Avila had a good outing, posting 6 saves for the game.
On Wednesday, Feb. 6, the Colusa Boys soccer team traveled to Redding on to take on Redding Christian in an SVL match and came away with a 4-0 win. The RedHawks score their first goal at the 4th minute on a shot from forward Victor Hernandez, unassisted. The next goal for Colusa went in off the foot of midfielder Edgar Garcia, at the 22nd minute, assisted by Ulises Galvan.
The RedHawks had strong defensive play from fullbacks Jesus Hernandez, Diego Avila, Saul Velez and Nicolas Lopez. Goalkeeper Leo Guzman had a good day posting 3 saves.
On Thursday, Feb. 7, the Colusa Boys soccer team hosted the Durham Trojans for an SVL match, also Colusa’s Senior Game, and came away with a convincing 9-1 win.
RedHawks forward Alejandro Rico would score 3 goals giving him the “Hat Trick” for the day. Also scoring was forward Victor Hernandez with 2 goals and an assist, Senior forward Adan Duran with 2 goals, forward Marciel Juarez with 1 goal and Senior midfielder Jonathan Muniz 1 goal.
Other assists came from Edgar Garcia with 2 assists, Ulises Galvan 2 assists, Senior Cesar Dominguez 1 assist, Darien Sarabia, 1 assist, Rodrigo Rodriguez 1 assist and Nathael Morales 1 assist. The RedHawks had strong defensive play from Senior Captain Leo Guzman, Jesus Hernandez, Saul Velez, Nicolas Lopez and Darien Sarabia.
Colusa Goalkeepers Diego Avila and Omar Huerta each had 2 saves.
The Colusa Boys Soccer team traveled to Hamilton City on Friday, Feb. 8 for an SVL match and came away with a 3-0 loss.
The RedHawks could not find the back of the Braves net, and Hamilton would go 3-0 before the half.
Colusa did make some halftime adjustments, and the second half was more productive for their offense, and Colusa’s defense was much stronger, holding Hamilton to just 3 shots, and no goals for the remainder of the game. The 3-0 score held to the end.
The RedHawks had strong defensive play from Leo Guzman, Jesus Hernandez, Saul Velez and Darien Sarabia.
Also playing well was midfielder Edgar Garcia and forward Victor Hernandez. Goalkeeper Diego Avila had 6 saves for the day. Colusa now stands at 11-6-3 in Sac Valley League play and are 12-6-3 overall.
The RedHawks will find out where they are seeded in playoffs tomorrow, with the first playoff game on Thursday Feb. 14. ■
