Enloe’s Junior Volunteer Program accepting applications for 2019-2020 school year

Enloe Medical Center’s Volunteer Services is now accepting applications through March 3 at 11:45 p.m. for high school students going into their junior or senior year who are interested in volunteering at the hospital during the 2019-2020 school year.

Applications are available by visiting www.enloe.org/volunteers and clicking on the Junior Volunteer Program link. Interviews for the Junior Volunteer Program will take place April 1. The Junior Volunteer Program accepts a limited number of students for the upcoming service year, which runs from June through June.

Student volunteers engage in many hospital activities that support patients, families, visitors, and staff, including escorting visitors, taking specimens to the lab, delivering flowers, running the gift shop register, helping with special events, and other tasks that complement the work of hospital staff. In addition to weekly volunteer duties, Junior Volunteers will attend several classes throughout the year. The students will hear from guest speakers and receive in-depth training.

“The Junior Volunteer Program at Enloe is designed to be an enriching and rewarding experience for our local high school students,” said Roseanna Galindo-Kuhn, director of Volunteer Services “Being a Junior Volunteer is a tremendous benefit to our community, and it’s also beneficial for students, particularly those exploring health care careers.”

Other benefits include skill development, experience working in a hospital setting, letters of recommendation for college, work experience to put on a job or college application, and the opportunity to apply for an Enloe Foundation Scholarship. The scholarships are given each year to graduating seniors.

Requirements for Junior Volunteers include attending:

  • A mandatory orientation day on June 13
  • A one week, five-day (Monday through Friday) training period over the summer
  • A two-hour weekly evening or weekend shift during the school year
  • Three required update meetings held throughout the service year

On Wednesday, May 1, an evening meeting will be held for the parents of selected participants, and the mandatory first day of orientation is Thursday, June 13. Any questions about the program may be directed to the Enloe Volunteer Services office at (530) 332-4575.
