The Colusa County Alpha Kappa Chapter of Omega Nu presented a $10,000 check on March 28 to Melissa Doherty, of Arbuckle.
Doherty’s husband, Sean, held the winning ticket for the 300 Club fundraiser, which allows the sorority to raise money for scholarships and other philanthropic causes.
“Sean bought a ticket and I bought a ticket because it is such a great cause, but it was Sean who actually won,” Doherty said. “I think it is wonderful of him to let me keep it.”
The Colusa County Omega Nu ladies club has provided annual scholarships to local high school seniors since 1958.
Omega Nu member Jessie Andreotti said the annual 300 Club raffle is their largest fundraiser, which raises $20,000 each year.
“Most of it will go toward scholarships,” Andreotti said.
Each year, Omega Nu awards scholarships to Colusa County’s graduating high school seniors based upon scholastic achievement, extracurricular participation, community service and involvement, personal commitment, and financial need.
Andreotti said the group will begin the selection process and interviews this month. ■
