Possum Causes Power Outage to 11,000 Customers

Staff Report | 3:00 p.m.

On early Thursday morning at approximately 1:20am, a possum managed to get into some equipment at the Cortina Substation out on Walnut Drive in Williams, confirmed by a PG&E Representative.

“The animal acted as a conductor,” said spokesperson Paul Moreno, “I don’t think he saw it coming.”

The event caused 11,000 customers to be without power in the areas of Arbuckle, Colusa, Dunnigan, Maxwell, Meridian, and Williams.

Service Crews from around the Sacramento Valley responded to the problem as quickly as possible and started restoring power around 5:00 am, some areas power was resorted around 6:15 am.

“We do everything we can to keep the animals out with guards and covers,” said Moreno, “however, sometimes it is unpredictable.”
