Williams Basketball Week 1

The Williams Men’s Basketball League opening on July 31 with 4 games at WHS.  The summer brought in 3 new teams and the dissolution of one, bringing the league to 8 teams. A summary of the opening weekend is provided below.

Swat 47, Alsco-Geyer Bulls 41
Swat started slow and had only a 6 point margin at half time against the newly formed Alsco-
Geyer Bulls from Arbuckle.  Swat pushed the lead to 10 points with about 5 minutes to play and held on to win by 6.

Cal-Food Hoosiers 59, M&K Harvesting Fuzz 26
The reigning champion Hoosiers started out behind in this game against the newly formed M&K Harvesting Fuzz.   At the mid point of the first half the game was lead by the Hoosiers by only 2 points.  However, the Hoosiers got into their offensive flow and outscored the Fuzz 37-11 to cruise to an opening day win.

Fouch&Sons Redskins 69, Vann Bros Young Gunz 30
In another opening game against a newly formed team the Young Gunz, the well oiled Redksins jumped out to a 37-16 half time lead and carried it all the way through to prevail by 39 points.

H&R Block Savages 56, La Fortuna 42
In a surprising game, La Fortuna stayed closed to last seasons runner up champion the Savages,  The contest was in serious contention given the potent shooting of the three pointers by La Fortuna.  Although trailing by as much as 17 points and having a bad shooting night, La Fortuna was able to close the gap and dropped the margin to below ten points less than a minute.   With about the fifty seconds to go, La Fortuna had the ball and a 9 point deficit and was looking for a three, which would have significantly changed the tone of the game.  The three point attempt missed.
