Caring Youth Counts Nominations Now Accepted

Submitted to the WPR

The Colusa County Office of Education is accepting nominations for the 7th Annual Caring Youth Counts Awards. This event was created based on the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets.  The Developmental Assets® are 40 common sense, positive experiences and qualities that help influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible, successful adults. Because of its basis in youth development, resiliency, and prevention research and its proven effectiveness, the Developmental Assets framework has become one of the most widely used approaches to positive youth development in the United States.

The Caring Youth Counts event is based on Asset # 7 “Community Values Youth.”  Every day, Colusa County youth make positive contributions to our community and healthy decisions for themselves.  We want to acknowledge their efforts by having people in the community nominate them for this award.  Youth can be nominated in one or more of the categories listed below:

Heroic Resilience:  This courageous young person has overcome or is in the midst of overcoming challenges in his/her life.
Interest in Community Services:  This young person voluntarily contributes to and serves his/her community, family, church or school, giving of him/herself to support others.

Strength of Character:  This young person is admirable for his/her efforts to remain true to his/her character by being honest, respectful, and/or standing up to peer pressure.

Eligibility Requirements: Anyone can nominate a Colusa County youth, including other youth, parents, neighbors, program leaders, or educators. Nominee must be between the ages of 5 years and 18 years. Nominee must demonstrate positive effort, achievement, or strong character. Nominee must attend schools within Colusa County.
