Hawk Named WPR Teacher of the Month

Staff Report

When it comes to children, parents can’t help but want the best for them. Teachers are so instrumental in shaping our children’s lives, inspiring them to live up to their fullest potential. So we at the Williams Pioneer Review want to celebrate teachers, to thank them for their hard work.

This week the WPR chose to meet with Mrs. Donna Hawk as the featured teacher of the month. Hawk has taught at Williams Elementary for 36 years. She is currently teaching first grade.

“My favorite part about teaching is the children. They make it fun!” Hawk said with a laugh.

“Williams Elementary school is [a] crown jewel of not only the county, but we are one of the top schools, of our type, in the state of California. That [accomplishment] is something to be proud of!” said Hawk “We have some of the most wonderful teachers, and a great principal.”

Hawk enjoys being physically active, and appreciates being able to combine her favorite activities with teaching active first graders. “I could never have been a lawyer or a business person, where I would’ve been required to sit still or go to meetings,” she admitted, “I like the active part of teaching!”

When Hawk first started teaching she had planned on instructing at the high school level, owing to the fact that the curriculum really appealed to her. However, once Hawk began interacting with the students she realized that was not where she was meant to be.

“I really like getting the first graders started on reading, because that is the beginning!” said Hawk, “It doesn’t get any more important than that.”

“When you are helping a child to improve their life? That is the best.” said Hawk.

Thank You Mrs. Hawk for teaching the children of our community. We appreciate all of your hard work. ■
