Local Places in Equine Photography Contest

“Morning Glory” by: Julie Cano – Placed fifth in the Equine Ideal Photography Contest, Amateur The Horse at Liberty Division.

Staff Report | Lloyd Green Jr.

In December of 2011, the Equine Photographers’ Networked invited all professional and amateur photographers, who seek to capture the ideal image of the horse, to enter their very own Online Photography Contest.

Local Williams’ amateur photographer Julie Cano did just that.

Cano’s submission in the ‘Amateur the Horse at Liberty’ class took Fifth Place with her beautifully stunning “Morning Glory” photograph. The photograph depicts a team of horses in an open field with ambient lighting and precise shutter speed capturing movement in a still frame.

Cano is a Western Photographer who has a talent in recreating the western lifestyle through natural light and composition.

A cowgirl by day, Cano is a wife and mother of two, and personally enjoys the western way of life. Julie’s passion for photography is specifically tailored to capturing the western lifestyle and keeping it alive.

Cano has won six awards over the past four years that include local recognitions from the Colusa County Fair, the Colusa County Arts Council and the Western Cowman Magazine.

Although Cano has a skillful eye in Western Photography, she also specializes in Senior Pictures, and Family Portraits.

More information on Cano’s photography and services can be found on her website at www.risingjphotography.com.

The images submitted to the 2012 Equine Photographers Network Contest were judged by professional equine photographers and decisions were based on: impact, equipment expertise, technical/artistic expertise, light and color, subject matter, creativity and suitability.

As the contest sponsor, the Equine Photographers’ Network awarded ribbons to first through sixth places and four honorable mentions, and prizes to the top three placing photos in each of the ten categories as well as a Best of Show award in both the Professional and Amateur divisions. The contest featured two People’s Choice Awards, a very popular feature from previous contests where the public was invited to cast their vote for their favorite photo from the professional and amateur divisions.
