Some of the worlds most powerful and influential film producers have named Norm Hunter’s independent film; “COLUSA” as one of the top 10 film projects of the year. Hunter’s film was selected by the Producers Guild of America (PGA) as a winner in its 2012 PGA Producers Showcase (ProShow) competition.

Judging hundreds of entries from around the world, a panel of prominent Guild members including Paula Wagner (Mission Impossible), Gale Hurd (The Terminator, Hulk), David Friendly (Little Miss Sunshinie) and others selected the winning projects.

Hunter said being recognized by film producers of this magnitude is a huge step forward for the film. “It is very exciting to have our film selected as one of the top ten” said Hunter.

“COLUSA” focuses on agriculture, Ag aviation and a little bit of Romeo and Juliet romance. With its positive message about agriculture and Ag aviation, it has already received support from Ag-related groups such as the California Rice Commission and the California Warehouse Association.

Hunter, CEO of Summertime Films, Inc., along with veterans from Pixar, Disney and Warner Brothers, has scheduled production of the film this year. It will be filmed using many Colusa County locations that Hunter has been scouting for nearly two years.

“I have known since the beginning that “COLUSA” is a great project and would be perfect to shoot in the Sacramento Valley” said Hunter. “As the screenplay developed, it became a love story to Colusa County.”

“This year’s finalists represent what the ProShow competition is all about: high-caliber film projects produced by talented and visionary women and men from across the globe,” said Stu Levy, Chair of the PGA’s International Committee and Chair of the PGA Producers Showcase. “I am so pleased that the PGA continues to support our global community of producers through the ProShow competition, and congratulations to these winners!”

The ProShow competition is taking place in conjunction with the fourth annual PGA Produced By Conference (PBC) on June 8-10, hosted by Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles. The finalists will participate in one-on-one meetings with top Hollywood financiers, studios and production houses.

The goal of the PGA Showcase competition is to facilitate producers’ projects by coordinating business with potential producing partners, film financiers, packagers and distributors, with a particular emphasis on international co- productions.

Reaching across the film, television and digital industries, the PBC is an educational forum that features acclaimed producers, including countless Academy Award®-winning filmmakers and Emmy® Award winners, as well as the next generation of creative entrepreneurs. The 2012 PBC event is chaired by Tracey Edmonds, Producers Guild President Emeritus Marshall Herskovitz, Rachel Klein and Gary Lucchesi. Diane Salerno (Six Degrees Global) is the 2012 PBC Sponsorship Director, and Adrian Sexton (CEO, New Medici) is the 2012 PBC Program Director.

All media interested in covering the 2012 Produced By Conference will need to complete and submit a Press Credential Application. Please email Mackenzie Smith at mackenzie.smith@42west.net to receive an application. While credentials are not guaranteed due to space limitations, PBC will do its best to grant them to as many outlets as possible.

The Producers Guild of America is the non-profit trade group that represents, protects and promotes the interests of all members of the producing team in film, television and new media. â–
