Twelve children ranging in age of 6 to 12 years enjoyed the Colusa County Day Camp each Tuesday from June 26 to July 31. The camp was from 9:30 AM until 12:00 PM at the Colusa County Department of Behavioral Health office.
Two teenaged helpers assisted with the camp. Melanie Whelchel, Emily Clark, Gemma Velazquez, and Kevin Shields facilitated the group.
Programs focused on coping skills and socialization skills, improving self-esteem, as well as covered a different safety topic each week. An art project was competed at each group including decorating aprons that they wore at sessions during art/food activities, decorating flower pots, decorating cookies, and multiple painting projects. The campers also enjoyed a field trip to the fire department one week where they toured the station and also got to take turns spraying the fire hose. Campers helped to make their own lunches each week and then sit as a group and eat together while sharing favorite parts of the day. ■
