Public Invited to Help Develop Water Management Plan

Submitted to the Williams Pioneer Review

The six counties of the Northern Sacramento Valley (Colusa, Glenn, Tehama, Shasta, Sutter, Butte) have been working together for over 10 years to lay the foundation for an integrated regional plan to address water-related issues. The public is invited to share their input about their community’s water needs and aspirations and learn about how these needs could be addressed through regional water management planning.

This is an opportunity to discuss community issues such as: drinking water supply reliability and quality; septic and sewer improvements; stormwater and flood management; urban and agricultural water supplies; fisheries; tribal water needs; and stream and wetland protection and restoration.

Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) is a collaborative effort to enhance coordination of the water resources in a region. IRWM involves multiple agencies, stakeholders, tribes, individuals and groups to address water-related issues and offer multiple solutions which can provide benefits to the region.

By taking a shared, regional approach to water resources planning, the IRWM Plan works to find solutions that promote economic health and vitality, ensure water supply reliability, provide flood protection, improve water quality and enhance ecosystems. When it is adopted in September 2013, the IRWM Plan will better position the region and local partners to receive funding for high-priority projects and programs.
