The Colusa Boy Scouts Troop 5 will be hosting its annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, February 11th at 7am to 1pm. at the Colusa Scout Cabin located at 9th and Parkhill Street in Colusa. Tickets are $5 presale and $6 at the door. Contact Amy at or (530) 933-6126. All funds raised help send the Boy Scounts to Summer camp.

Thursday, February 16, 7 P.M. at the Colusa County Library. 738 Market Street, in the Morse Conference Room. County Librarian, Wendy Burke, will be providing the program. The meeting is open to all. If you haven’t checked the library’s website, you would be surprised to see what is available with just a click of the keyboard and a free library card or e-card. Wendy will be giving an overview of these digital resources: job searches, reference, automobile repair, e-book and audio book needs, Mango language, online tutoring and for young children animated classic books. The County Library is no longer just books…..there is a whole world of information just waiting for you to access at: There will be a brief business meeting where the past year’s activities will be highlighted, a financial report given and the election of officers held. Nominations for 2012 are: President – Dale Townzen. Vice-President – Jeff Thompson. Secretary – Mary Beth Massa. Treasurer – Carolyn Guild Nominations will also be accepted from the floor. Refreshments will be provided after the meeting allowing time to ask questions and peruse the library.

The congregation of the Arbuckle United Methodist Church invites the community to attend their annual Chicken/Ham Dinner to be held on Sunday, February 26, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Arbuckle Fire Hall.  Tickets for adults are $10.00, Children 4 yrs. – 12 yrs. $4.00 and those 3 and under are free.  A beautiful quilt designed and created by Barbara Peterson will be raffled.  Tickets for the quilt raffle are being sold by Florence Uhland. Local businesses and members of the congregation donate items for the Opportunity Drawing Table and each year, more wonderful gifts seem to be available.  Also, the homemade bake table has delicious goodies for everyone and the fishing booth is always fun for the children. Tickets for the dinner may be purchased at the door or from any member of the congregation.  It is going to be a great evening enjoying the best chicken in town with family and friends.

Our Lady of Lourdes School presents a Drop In To Read Story Time on Wednesday, Feb. 29, March 7, March 14, and March 21 from 6-7pm. Stories will follow a fun theme each week with hands on activities to follow- perfect for kids 3-8yrs old. This event is sponsored by the Sacarmento River Cats who have provided a limited number of lawn tickets to children participating in the event. What a great way to promote literacy. The VFW is hosting an holding an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon on March 3. Tables are available for rent, please contact  Art Blaine at 458-4466 or Omar Gryder at 458-2726. Cist us $13 per table and the deadline to reserve your space is March 1.

Scholarships Available
The Glenn Colusa Cattlewomen and Cattlemen have  scholarships available with awards totaling $200,000 to students who will be entering their junior, senior or graduate years of upper-division university or college in the fall of 2012, preferably with an emphasis on beef production and/or promotion.Candidates must be graduates of a high school in Colusa or Glenn counties. Car Seat Safety Classes
Do you know what car seat is right for your child?  Do you know how to properly install your child’s car seat?  Is your child safe in your car?  Colusa County Public Health can help! Certified child safety seat technicians are currently offering classes that will answer all your questions.  The cost of the class is $20 and may qualify low income families for a free car seat. Classes are held monthly from 10-1130 in English and Spanish.  Space is limited so call ahead to reserve your space.  Colusa County Public Health can be reached at (530) 458-0380.

The committee is responsible for reviewing and making recommendations to the City Council on public utility issues.  The committee also provides oversight to ensure public utility funds are accounted for accurately and are properly spent. In addition to advising the City Council on utility issues, the committee is tasked with educating the public regarding utility planning, rates and other matters relating to utilities owned or operated by the city , including water and wastewater. The committee meets quarterly at 6 p.m. at City Hall with Special Meetings held on an “as-needed” basis. All interested parties are encouraged to apply Monday-Thursday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm at City Hall 425 Webster Street

Grant applications are now being accepted on behalf of the Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Committee. This funding is provided through SB 621 for applicants that are local government jurisdictions within Colusa County which are impacted by tribal gaming. Applicants may include law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical services, water supplies, waste disposal, planning and adjacent land use, public health, behavioral health, roads, and recreation, youth programs and child care. Application deadline is February 17th at 5PM. Applications are distributed by the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors. For more information, call (530) 458-0508, or

Recology and the City of Williams offer free monthly drop-off of electronic waste such as TVs, household batteries, fluorescent tubes and computers, from 9am to 2pm. The event is held the first Thursday of every month at the City of Williams Public Works Yard at 735 7th Street. There is a limit of 5 TVs or computers per visit.
