Woodland/Davis Dutch Bros. Coffee Father’s Day Proceeds to Support Treatment for 8-Year-Old Iron Man

Dutch Bros
Eight-year-old J.T. Davis

For Father’s Day this year, Dutch Bros. Coffee locations in Woodland and Davis will donate all proceeds to enzyme treatments for eight-year-old J.T. Davis, who suffers the rare Gaucher’s disease.

J.T. was diagnosed in March 2013. His mom, Kim Davis, describes the moment she and husband Jameson found out. “When we got the phone call, [the doctor] said, ‘You guys aren’t driving, are you?’ That’s when I knew something bad was coming.”

Gaucher’s disease is a genetic blood disorder, only experienced by 1 in 50,000 people, where blood cells that normally break down and recycle waste aren’t doing their job due to the lack of a certain enzyme.

As a result, J.T.’s spleen is enlarged to 11 inches, causing constant nausea and pain from the shift of his organs and a pinched renal nerve. A normal spleen is about the size of a person’s fist.

The disease has no cure but is treatable with costly enzyme treatments, which must be infused via a medi-port every two weeks and will cost $186K annually. Insurance will pay a portion of the cost, but J.T.’s family will still be responsible for a large amount.

For the infusions, J.T. has a medi-port permanently embedded in his chest. “He calls it his ‘Iron Man port,’” says dad Jameson, who is a maintenance technician for Dutch Bros. “The fact that he thinks he’s Iron Man is more positive than focusing on being sick.”

“It really shows the whole culture of Dutch Bros., the family environment,” says Kim. “Just knowing that you have more than your immediate family out there and that it’s okay to lean on others at times…We’re so lucky and blessed to be given this opportunity.”

Dutch Bros. Coffee locations in Woodland and Davis are owned by Sean and Lynsey Provost, who have donated over $90K to local causes and nonprofit organizations since they opened in Woodland in 2004.
