New Business is a Quilter’s Delight

Carol Lindquist is surrounded by brightly colored bolts of fabric inside her new business.

The Friends Around the Block quilt shop, located in downtown Colusa at 433 Market Street is a place where quilting friends can meet and find the quilting supplies they need.

A hobby turned business; Lindquist started quilting as a young mother.

“I was self-taught; I learned from a magazine,” said Lindquist, “Later I took formal classes and went on quilting retreats.”

Lindquist finds quilting to be very addictive, but very therapeutic.

“I want my store to become a destination for quilters,” said Lindquist, “I want our customers to be inspired, and to continue passing on the art of quilting.”

“Some people think it is crazy to cut up a piece of fabric only to sew it back together,” said Lindquist, “It’s an old fashioned social art.”

The full service quilt shop offers a wide variety of quality cotton fabrics, complete fabric collections, Notions, wide color selection of flosses and threads, reproduction and batik fabrics, and flannels.

The friendly quilting environment offers a comprehensive variety of classes offered to beginners, to the most advanced of quilters.

“If there is something someone would like to learn, we will help them out.” Said Lindquist.

“My husband, Peter Lindquist, is very supportive in our new adventure,” said Lindquist, “I worked at his law firm for many years and it’s really wonderful to be in my own business.”

“What can I say, I love to quilt!” said Lindquist.

The Quilt Shop has several classes starting in November starting with a ‘Twisted Wreath Tutorial’, Beginner Classes, and a ‘Strip Tube Tutorial’.

For more information on classes call (530) 458-7467 or visit the shop Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 am to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.K
