The third round of Premier Mushrooms Inc. grants to Colusa County non-profit groups will be awarded in January 2014. Grant applications are now available. Submission deadline is December 31, 2013.
The grant funds are generated through Premier’s donation of fresh mushrooms for sale by the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce each season at the Colusa Farmers Market.
In 2013 five groups including Safe Haven Fund, Colusa County Arts Council, Friends of Music, Colusa County Resource Conservation District (Colusa County Grown project), and the Family Action Center received grant funding ranging from $150 to $250 each.
Lynda Reynolds, coordinator of the market sold the mushrooms. One hundred percent of the sales are contributed to the program and dispersed as grants.
In January 2014, representatives from each winning group will be invited to attend the annual awards breakfast hosted by Premier Mushrooms Inc.
Premier Mushrooms Inc. CEO John Ashbaugh will announce the award amounts at that time.
Ashbaugh, an advocate for giving back to the community, commented that he has been pleased with the response to the first two years of the grant program. “I hope that more groups will be a part of this year’s funding process,” he said.
Reynolds stated that she continues to enjoy selling the mushrooms each year at the Market. “Premier has been so generous with this program,” she said. “I’m pleased that we have a company like this in our county, and I am pleased to be a part of this outreach to our non-profits each year,” she said.
