The Annual Colusa County Food Basket canned food drive is currently underway and has expanded its drop off site to include the Holiday Craft & Gift Faire on Nov. 23 & 24 at the Colusa County Fairgrounds.
Faire attendees will have an opportunity to share as well as shop this year. The craft faire’s host Carolan Meek and Professional Events Services have partnered with the Colusa County Food Basket Association by providing space at the event.
Craft faire patrons are invited to drop off a couple of canned good items at the front gate as they enter the fairgrounds. The items will be placed in the food baskets that will be distributed to families throughout Colusa County December 13. Canned food drives are also being conducted at all county schools, many churches and some businesses.
The Colusa County Food Basket Program started about l5 years ago and has been very successful. In 2012 approximately 450 families throughout the county received a basket for the Christmas holiday. Items such as eggs, bread, ham, potatoes, milk, rice and canned goods are all included in each basket. Cash donations are also being accepted to help offset the purchase of the perishable items.
Anyone wishing to make a cash donation may do so by mailing check to: Colusa County Food Basket Assoc., PO Box 755, Colusa, CA. 95932.
Spokesperson for the Association Patty Hickel commented that many people have made this program a success over the years. “We are thankful to all of those people whose generosity has continued to brighten the holiday season for those people receiving the baskets,” she said. K
