Dollar General Coming to Arbuckle

Arbuckle residents could be getting a Dollar General store, following an architectural review and building permit process.

“Dollar General is serious at adding a location in Arbuckle,” said District 1 Supervisor, Kim Vann.

Dollar General claims it makes shopping for everyday needs simpler and hassle-free by offering an assortment of the most popular brands at low prices.

To be located at a previously commercial zoned property, Dollar General is expected to be constructed on the corner of Hillgate and Wildwood.

“We are currently working with Dollar General to mitigate the traffic impacts, and to work with the school district to help keep our kids safe,” said Vann.

A recent traffic study was done at the Hillgate and Wildwood intersection for 36-hours during peak traffic activity.

“We setup specialized cameras to count the number of vehicles,” said Vann, “we are using that data to work with dollar general.”

Vann has looked into the possibly of traffic signal lights; however, they are not feasible at this time. “In order for us to receive signal lights we have to meet requirements state by the state,” said Vann.

Vann also commented that they are in the process with Caltrans to prevent Tractor Trailers (Semis) from exiting the Southbound Interstate 5, Arbuckle-College City, exit to help with traffic flow. “It’s a sharp curve, and the large trucks can’t exit properly without disrupting traffic.” Said Vann.

Dollar General is anticipated to create extra jobs in the area while providing access to retail services.
