Arbuckle Elementary Fifth grader, Jakob Navarrete had a dream on becoming a finalist in the Butte County Farm Bureau’s Agribee – with hard work and determination his dream came true on November 22nd, 2013.

After correctly spelling and defying the word “leveled”, Navarrete, took first place in the competition and a brand-new laptop computer.

Navarrete was chosen to take part in the Agribee after successfully winning the local district level competition held at Pierce High School.

Hosted in part with the Arbuckle FFA, chapter members prepared several fourth and fifth graders from Arbuckle Elementary study and prepared for the competition.

Jakob Navarrete was one of the district finalists that enabled him to continue to the Patrick Ranch in Durham, where the Butte Colusa County Farm Bureau host the Grand Finale Agribee.

Hudson Bair of Grimes accompanied Navarrete to the competition in Durham.

The Agribee™ is much like a standard spelling bee, with one major difference – each word must be defined and spelled – using agriculturally related words, for fourth and fifth grade students. The program is available to schools in Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Sutter, Tehama and Yuba Counties in California.
