Harold L. Peterson (1918-2013)

Harold L. PtersonBorn 24th of September, 1918 at the Fabiola Hospital on Mosswood and Broadway Avenues in Oakland, California completed his journey home May 5th, 2013. He was known as “Pete” or “H.L.” after developing his H.L. Peterson Agriculture Aviation service in 1947.

His parents, Alma Maude (Meckfessel) and Frank H. “Roudy” Peterson were taken home in 1924 and 1985 respectively.

Pete attended Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo (‘37-’38) and played football for 2 years before transferring to the University of California at Davis where he earned an Associate’s Degree in 1941.

In 1942, Pete enlisted in the Army corps where he flew 31 missions in the Pacific Theatre in 1945 over Japan as a B-29 Pilot. After WWII, he served as an Operations Officer of a B-29 training program at Mather AFB in 1946. Pete completed 2,000 hours of military flight.

Upon a decision to leave the military, he came home to Colusa County and developed an agricultural aviation service and airport that is still active today. Pete completed over 14,000 hours “crop dusting” in the business that he owned and operated in Colusa County.

In 1969, Pete was elected Colusa County Supervisor of District 1. He served in that capacity for 12 years during which time he dedicated himself with a county water contract with the Dept. of the Interior, County boundaries as a flood control district, the “Right to Farm” ordinance and a still-referred- to drainage study of the Sacramento Valley.

Pete is survived by his wife Wanda (Robinson) of Forest Ranch, whom he married in 1971; his daughter, Stacey Michelle, born in August 1976, her husband Tim Harrington, two granddaughters, Avery and Eleanor Harrington of Sacramento, sister in law Grace Harrison of North Hills and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pete truly enjoyed the adventure of life, with the comfort and assurance of his creator and those who had been instrumental in his life during the time allotted him.

Visitation were held on Thursday May 9th from 5-8p.m. at McNary-Moore Chapel 107 5th street Colusa.

Graveside services were held at the College City Cemetery in College City, California on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. and a memorial remembrance was held at the Arbuckle Golf Club following the service.
