scan0023Edward Gassaway passed away November 24, 2013.

Known as Tyke to his family and friends, he was born October 27, 1940 in Colusa.

Graduating in 1957, with the first class to graduate from the new high school, he attended Chico State, was a member of the Williams Fire Department, and a resident deputy of the Colusa County Sherriff’s Department serving under Max Mayfield.

He later moved to Santa Rosa and after working various jobs, went to work for Sears as a salesman…and what a salesman he was. He retired after over twenty years and moved back home to Williams in 1995.

Tyke had a love and appreciation for antique and vintage firearms, reading, animals, westerns and the “characters” of Williams. Always a quick wit and never without a story, he never failed to come up with unique sayings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert “Tuffy” and Melba Gassaway. He leaves a brother Doug and sister Pat Ash of Williams, a sister Susan Leardini of Novato, one niece , three nephews, and great nephews and nieces.

The family would like to thank his caregivers at Mirasona Manor and a special thank you to the Goforth family for making Tyke a part of their family gatherings.

Graveside services will be held Friday December 6, at 2 pm at the Williams Cemetery for a celebration of Tyke’s life.
