NEWSPAPER PUBLISHED WEEKLY ON WEDNESDAY - WEBSITE UPDATED THURSDAY

Bad Weather and Power Outage Darkens Christmas Tyme in Colusa

Inclement weather and a countywide power outage to blame for the dismissal of the event Christmas Tyme in Colusa held on Friday, December 6th.

According to PG&E representative Paul Moreno, the countywide power outage left nearly 4,000 customers in the dark at about 6:30 p.m. The cause, unidentified.

“No cause was identified for this outage, which can happen during windy conditions as debris like tree branches and palm fronds can blow into lines, then fall away.” Said Moreno, “Also, high winds can bring power lines close together and cause a fault, at which point breakers will activate to de-energize lines so as not to cause damage.”

Community members and vendors tried to hold the community spirit; though the darkness, weather and concerns for safety – most vendors packed up and headed home.

A disappointment for the community of Colusa; however, several of the events went without a hitch, and the winners are announced.

Tractor Contest Winners are Superior Tires in First, Presbyterian Church in Second, and the VFW in Third. Superior Tires granted their winnings to the Veterans Tribute Wall.

Christmas Tree Giveaway Winners were: Kate Cooke, Dave Bishop, Tom Dorries, Rod Berhard, and Carol Ann Dickens.
