NEWSPAPER PUBLISHED WEEKLY ON THURSDAY

Breastfeeding and Support Services Available

During the first week of February, Colusa County Public Health, First 5 Colusa, and Colusa CAPC (Child Abuse Prevention Council) hosted a Certified Lactation Counselor Training through the Center for Breastfeeding.

Held in the newly built Colusa County Office of Education, Education Village in Williams, CA., a total of 28 participants, 10 of whom are local employees within Colusa County – Colusa County Public Health, Colusa Regional Medical Center, CCOE Children’s Services, First 5 Colusa, WIC Colusa, and Riverside Health Clinic.

Research has shown that almost all mothers know breastfeeding is best. Sadly, many mothers who choose to breastfeed end up stopping within the first ten days after their baby is born. Certified Lactation Counselors within our community are knowledgeable and accessible sources of support for mothers and babies.

“Our goal is to see more babies being exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months of life as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics,” said Schsleen Lee.

If you have any questions, want to prepare for success in breastfeeding, or need help with breastfeeding, please call the Colusa County Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health Program. Toll Free Number: 1-800-655-3110
