Professional Pit Masters, Andy and Leslie Ferrendelli know good barbecue, and they have awards to prove it.
Located at 242 Commercial Street in Downtown Princeton, A & L BBQ celebrated their grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, February 18th, 2014.
“I sampled the sample of meats they offer, and it was yummy!” said Colusa County Chamber of Commerce President, Donna Phelan.
The restaurant menu includes items such as pulled pork, ribs, chicken, and tri-tip; in addition to 1/3lb and 1/4lb hand pressed hamburgers that are seasoned with Leslie’s special blend.
“We try to keep our menus simple,” said Leslie, “we have our base items, and then we have our daily specials.”
The restaurant is also open for breakfast, serving up corned beef and hash, pancakes, biscuits and gravy and more.
‘Big Blue’ the restaurants featured smoker, is proudly displayed outside the restaurant filling the air with the day’s delicious special.
“The smoker was an FFA Project,” said Andy Ferrendelli, “Mason Moore, a Princeton FFA member completed the smoker under my direction.”
The duo has been barbecuing competitively for as long as they both can remember.
Members of the Kansas City Barbecue Society, both Leslie and Andy have competed around the state earning titles for their best. Recently earning best Tri Tip at the Feather Falls Casino Brews & Brats BBQ Championship in 2013, and taking 5th place overall.
“We have talked about opening our own restaurant for years,” said co-owner, Leslie Ferrendelli, “this was the best time to begin.”
Kicking off their dreams, Leslie has left her position at a local grain warehouse. While Andy, a Princeton Ag Teacher, will be retiring at the end of the school year.
The support from the community has been great, mentioned Leslie. She mentioned that people have traveled from Willows, and Artois to eat at their establishment.

A & L Barbecue is open Monday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a special Friday night dinner menu.
