Carolanne White, a para educator at Williams Elementary School, shared her love of history and expertise on the life of Abraham Lincoln with the transitional kindergarten class. Dressed in Civil War era costume, White told the students she was going to have tea with Mrs. Lincoln.
White and her husband Malcolm , both avid history buffs, are Civil War reenactors who spend several weekends a year sharing their passion with others. White has an extensive collection of Lincoln and Civil War memorabilia.
White modeled her period gown, read a book about the life of Abraham Lincoln, and gave each student a shiny Lincoln penny.
Barbara Mayberry, teacher of the TK class, said her students enjoyed learning more about our 16th president and life during that period. “When Mrs. White gave the students time to ask questions at the end of her presentation,” Mayberry added, “One little boy raised his hand and said ‘I sure do miss Abraham Lincoln!’
