To be eligible to register to vote in California, an applicant must be a United States citizen; at least 18 years old by Election Day; not judged by a court to be mentally incompetent; and not in prison, on pa-role, serving a state prison sentence in county jail, serving a sentence for a felony pursuant to subdivision (h) of Penal Code section 1170, or on post release community supervision.
A person must re-register to vote when they move or change their name, or if they want to change their political party preference.
