A Willows Area California Highway Patrol Officer is recovering from injuries sustained from a traffic stop early Wednesday morning.
At approximately 1:15 a.m. on February 26th, 2014, Officer Joseph Stokes of the Willows Area CHP was conducting an enforcement stop, on Northbound Interstate 5, just south of the City of Willows.
That is when a 20-year old, Vitaly Daviduik, of Elverta, California was driving a 1999 Ford F350 when reportedly falling asleep behind the wheel. His vehicle drifted onto the right hand shoulder. Daviduik’s trailer in tow, side swiped the detained vehicle causing it to slide sideways hitting officer Stokes, knocking him to the ground.
Stokes was transported to Glenn Medical Center for complaints of pain to his lower back and was released with minor injuries.
No other injuries were sustained at the scene.
