Emmy-winning television writer/producer and author Russ Woody’s will return to Colusa in April as a celebrity judge at Colusa Western Days’ Dutch Oven Cook-off.

Colusa Western Days is a three day event April 4, 5 and 6 at the Colusa County Fairgrounds. The Dutch Oven Cook-Off is at noon on Saturday, April 5.

Woody first visited here last July when he, at his own expense spent an entire day devoted to an outreach program for a number of groups in the City.

His generosity to the community prompted the establishment of July 24, 2013 as “Russ Woody Day”, an honor that Woody said he was both surprised and pleased to receive.

His April 5 visit will be as a celebrity judge for the annual Dutch Oven Cook-off hosted by the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce and Colusa Casino Resort during Western Days.

The Chamber’s chief administrative officer Gary Teragawa who heads up the organization of the Cook-Off each year said he is very pleased that Woody is once again visiting Colusa.

“It is generous indeed that he supports our community in the ways that he does,” said Teragawa.

Woody has published three books; “The Wheel of Nuldoid”, “Effed Up! Story of a Family” and “Heroic Heart”, the story of a father & son.

He is also an Emmy and Golden Globe winning television writer having worked on television series such as Benson, Fantasy Island, Webster, Newhart, Valerie’s Family, St. Elsewhere, Hill Street Blues, Parenthood, Good Sports, Room for Two, Double Rush, Mad About You, The Drew Carey Show, Cybill, Style & Substance, Becker, True Jackson, VP, Notes from the Underbelly, The Middle and Murphy Brown, for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award as a part of the show’s writing team. He also worked as a production assistant on Bosom Buddies and Family Ties.

Currently he is writer on the 2013-2014 television series; Instant Mom.

Teragawa said that the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce is very happy to have a return visit by Woody, and that they are especially pleased that he will be a part of the 2014 cook-off judging team.
