Two new Williams Police Officers, Sandeep “Sonny” Grewal, and Victoria “Vikki” Bonilla were sworn in on Monday, March 17th, 2014 at a special ceremony held at Williams City Hall.
Friends and family, colleagues, city staff, and members of the community attended and witnessed the memorable event.
“Grewal and Bonilla were extremely well qualified,” said Williams Police Chief, Jim Saso.
Chief Saso officiated the ceremony and presented the new officers with their badges.
The addition of the new officers brings the Williams Police Department to full staff.
“It’s been a year and a half since our department was fully staffed,” said Saso, “we have been actively recruiting for the right individuals.”
Strong efforts were made to recruit the new officers that would fit the Williams community and met the needs of the department.
“We’ve must have reviewed over 100 applicants,” said Saso, “I was impressed by the officers’ maturity, education and their desire to work in a small community.”
Officer Sandeep Grewal, or known as ‘Sonny’, grew up in Yuba City, graduating from Faith Christian High School. After attending Bethany University in Scotts Valley California, Sonny attended the Butte College Police Academy and graduated in the 132nd Academy class in December of 2013. Sonny is fluent in both English and Punjabi.
Officer Victoria Bonilla, or known as ‘Vikki’, grew up in Planada, graduating from Le Grand High School. Vikki attended Chico State University where she was hired by the University’s Police Department as a Community Service Officer and later became their wtraining officer. Vikki graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. She then enrolled in the Butte College Police Academy and graduated in the 132nd Academy class in December of 2013. Vikki is fluent in both English and Spanish.
