On Monday, March 17th, 2014, the Williams Volunteer Firefighters Association presented a check for $5,000 to the Firefighters Burn Institute representing the proceeds from a recent boot drive for the organization.
Jim Doucetta accepted the donation on behalf of the Firefighters Burn Institute.
The Firefighters Burn Institute was founded in 1973, after a tragic jet plane crashed into the Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlor in South Sacramento that took the lives of 22 people. Sacramento Fire Captain, Cliff Haskell, asked area Firefighters to assist him in establishing a burn unit in Sacramento, after learning there was not one in the area. In 1974, Sacramento’s burn unit was established at the U.C. Davis Medical Center.
The monies raised on Sunday will benefit recovery programs for burn survivors, burn prevention, and burn-treatment research.
