Colusa Student Awarded Top Honor in Agricultural Production

Colusa Student Awarded Top Honor in Agricultural ProductionDemonstrating superior achievement in the development and application of agricultural production, Colusa FFA student Andrea Thomas was awarded the Diversified Agricultural Production Entrepreneurship and Placement Proficiency Award at the 86th State FFA Leadership Conference in Fresno and now qualifies to compete at the national level.

Andrea Thomas is a junior at Colusa High School. Andrea grows wheat, oat and alfalfa hay. She also has a commercial cow calf operation and a swine operation. She would like to teach agriculture and ranch with her dad.

‚ÄúThe outstanding accomplishment of this student signifies the hard work, determination and perseverance that are needed in order to attain this level of honor. The competencies, financial achievement and personal growth students receive through FFA activities ultimately give them the skills desired for their future endeavors,‚ÄĚ said Bob Heuvel, State FFA Advisor and California Department of Education, Agriculture and Home Economics unit manager.

The Diversified Agricultural Production Entrepreneurship and Placement Proficiency Award focuses on teaching students management practices to produce and market efficiently at least one type livestock and one type of crop, and it honors students who have demonstrated high achievement in this area.

The National FFA Foundation, Inc. are the national award sponsors and the state award is sponsored by David A. Mendonca Farms and in memory of Wally Goves.‚Ė†
