The Colusa County Commodities Cook-off is back at the Colusa County Fair this year. This year’s cook-off will be at 7:30 pm on Friday, June 6 at Colusa County Commodity Stage in Festival Hall.
The cook-off is sponsored by the 44th DAA and Colusa Casino Resort.
Chef Keith Erickson, head chef at the Casino Resort’s WinTun Dinner House will head up the judging of the event.
He will also do a cooking demonstration using Heritage Rice and sushi following the contest.
On Saturday and Sunday during the Fair area chefs will be demonstrating a variety of dishes on the stage. The stage is brought to the fair each year by its sponsors; Premier Mushrooms Inc., Central Valley Gas Storage and Jeffreys Ranch Pecans.
There are a few changes to the Commodity Cook-off this year.
There will be only two categories; entrée and dessert. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prices of $150, $75 and $50 awarded in each category and a $250 prize for Best of Show. Pre-paid debit cards in those amounts will be awarded to the winners the night of the event.
All dishes entered must use at least one product grown or produced in Colusa County.
Organizer of the event Bernice Dommer commented that this has become a very good event for the fair. “We are getting more and more interest in it and I’m hoping for great response this year,” she said.
