On Saturday, May 3, 2014, the parking lot of Fouch & Son Pharmacy was filled with gently used goods looking for a new home – all part of a fundraiser to assist individuals battling breast cancer.
Local “Walkin’ 4 Udders” is raising funds to participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-day ‘walk for the cure’ event in Seattle on September 19-21, 2014; additionally the group will be participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in San Francisco on July 12-13, 2014.
Team founders Patti Turner and Pixie Rennick have participated in the Susgn G. Komen walk for the past four years. Joining the duo this year is Cindy Sites, and Melinda Parker.
Turner’s husband, Doug participates in the walks as part of the medic team for his third year. He will tend to walkers at the event that have incurred injuries.
Each member in the group must raise over $4,100 each to be eligible in both events.
“We each have to raise $1,800 for the Avon Walk, and $2,300 for the Susan G. Komen walk,” said Patti Turner.
Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the Susan G. Komen 3-Day help support Komen’s Research and Training Grant Program and large public health outreach programs for women and men facing breast cancer.
The remaining 25 percent helps fund local community and Affiliate support and outreach programs.
The team plans for additional fundraising activities to meet their goal. For more information or to help contribute to the group’s goal, contact Patti Turner at (530) 473-5075. All donations are tax deductible.
