The annual Colusa County Chamber of Commerce dinner was an evening of honoring, remembering and surprises this year when it was hosted at Steelhead Lodge Bar and Grill on Monday, May 12.
Earlier this year the community and the Chamber lost a friend and ever-giving volunteer with the passing of Jim “Otis” Reading.
At the dinner on Monday night the chamber honored Reading’s memory by presenting his family with a commemorative plaque and certificate of appreciation. The plaque noted that Reading was a man loved and admired and called friend.
Chamber president Donna Phelan, executive director Gary Teragawa and chamber director Daniel O’Connell presented the plaque and certificate to Reading’s son Toby.
In doing so the guests were reminded how Reading had generously volunteered his life to many community programs and that his passing had left a whole in the heart of the community.
Ed Hulbert, Colusa Industrial Properties CEO was taken completely by surprise when he was named Colusa County Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year for which he was recognized by a State Resolution by Assemblyman Dan Logue.
Logue’s field representative Yvonne Henderson presented the award on behalf of the Assemblyman.
In the resolution Hulbert was recognized for devoting a great part of his life to discerning the needs of others and for never hesitating to volunteer his time to his fellow citizens when called upon.
The resolution states that he has made many contributions to the welfare and improvement of the Colusa Community and that his actions have been invaluable.
The annual dinner was attended by nearly 100 Colusa County business leaders and residents as well as a number of city, county and state officials.
Teragawa said that he was pleased with the success of the dinner and the participation of the community.
Included in the evenings events were raffle drawings for nearly 40 prizes donated by area businesses and individuals.
