Gwinnup Crowned Mini Miss Colusa County 2014

Nine contestants competed in the 25th annual Mini Miss Colusa County pageant on Wednesday, June 4th, 2014 at the Colusa County Fairgrounds.

Hundreds of friends and family members filled the grandstands, rooting for their favorite contestants.

The 2014 Mini Miss Colusa County was crowned to Ms. Kaylie Gwinnup of Maxwell. Kaylie is the daughter of Michael and Amy Gwinnup.

1st Runner-up was crowned to Ms. Jewel Kesterson of Colusa. Jewel is the daughter of Amber Kesterson and the late Dan Kesterson.

2nd Runner-up was crowned to Ms. Rosalyn Wilson of Colusa. Rosalyn is the daughter of Joseph and Mary Wilson of Colusa.

The Friendship award was presented to Ms. Mirella Granados of Colusa. Mirella is the daughter of Felipe and Martha Granados.

Each contestant was judged based on a personality interview, communication skills, talent, visual poise, and their onstage personalities.

To show off their communication skills, each contestant introduced themselves to the audience, giving a small bit of personal information about themselves, and to explain where they think they will be in 75 years; thus part of the Colusa County Fair celebrating its 75th year. Additionally, each contestant had to incorporate the fairs theme ‘Cowboy Boots and Country Roots’ in their speech.

The talent portion of the competition was filled with exciting dance routines, and musical talents. Performances included: Ms. Rosalyn Wilson sang the popular song ‘Let it go’; Ms. Jewel Kesterson sang a very powerful and uplifting song ‘Who Says’; and Ms. Amy Gwinnup performed an energetic dance routine to the song ‘Fireworks’.

For the visual poise, each contestant, wearing a beautiful gown was escorted by a family member making a circle around the stage, showing good posture and best smile. To finish, the contestants answered a blind question they pulled out of a cowboy-hat, and their overall performance during the pageant gave the judges a feel for the contestant’s on-stage personalities.

The 2014 Colusa County Mini Miss Contestants also included Kelsea Whiting,11 of Colusa. Kelsea is the daughter of Emit and Shawnte Whiting; Rylee Reading, 11 of Colusa. Rylee is the daughter of Toby and Kiffin Reading; Layn Haywood, 11 of Maxwell. Layn is the daughter of Marc and Kelly Haywood; Keyana Carbajal, 10 of Colusa. Keyanda is the daughter of Dede Carbajal, and god-daughter to Dave and Viki Markss; and MaryJo Wilson, 8 of Colusa. MaryJo is the daughter of Joseph and Mary Wilson.
