“These students are selected by school staff members who see a child in the need of help,” said Colusa County Realtor, Carmelita Silva, “and with the help of the YSRA they are given the opportunity to buy new clothes for school.”
Traditionally the event is held for Yuba and Sutter County students; However, this year the organization has added fifteen Colusa County students to its list.
On Saturday, July 26, 2014, the students and their parents will meet with local Realtors for a early breakfast before they begin their shopping spree at J.C. Penny’s.
“Each student is given a $100 spending limit for new clothes and shoes,” said Silva, “additionally J.C. Penny gives each student special discount coupons to help stretch their spending dollar further.”
J.C. Penny’s will close its doors for the special two hour event, as students shop with their parents.
‘J.C. Penny staff and local Realtors will help assist the children shop.” said Silva.
The Sutter Yuba Association of Realtors Clothes For Kids event provides over $10,000 in new back to school clothing to low-income or in crisis, school-aged referred children in Sutter, Yuba and Colusa Counties, free of charge through fundraising efforts and donations.
