Just after 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2014 the Williams Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle fire located at Motel 6, 455 4th Street in Williams.
When fire crews arrived on scene they found a 1999 Ford F-250 fully engulfed in flames.
Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire.
The vehicles owner, an Arizona man, was making his way back home from a trip to Oregon.
“The owner of the vehicle had been at motel for about an hour and went to a nearby restaurant for dinner,” said Williams Fire Chief, Jeff Gilbert, “upon his return, it was discovered that his vehicle was on fire.”
No damage was done to the motel or surrounding vehicles.
“If the fire happened latter in the evening, the outcome could have been different,” said Gilbert, “we are very fortunate that the driver decided to back his truck into the parking space, it very likely saved the motel from catching fire.”
The cause of the fire is undetermined, however officials said the fire appeared to have started in the engine compartment.
The owner claimed to have no prior issues with his vehicle prior to the fire.
