Vehicle Crashes into Highway 20 Irrigation Canal; Four Dead

Four Yuba City residents were killed Saturday when their car went off the roadway and into an irrigation canal; one survivor with minor injuries was transported to a local medical center, the California Highway Patrol Reported.

On, Saturday, August 23, 2014 at approximately 3:10 p.m. five occupants of a 2001 Honda Accord were traveling eastbound on Highway 20, just south of Colusa when for unknown reasons the vehicle traveled off of the roadway onto the right shoulder. Subsequently the vehicle rolled over onto its roof and became two-thirds submerged in the irrigation canal.

The left rear passenger, Suman Bala, 65 of Yuba City was able to get out of the vehicle with only minor injuries and was transported to Colusa Regional Medical Center, the CHP said.

According to officer, the four other occupants in the vehicle sustained fatal injures as a result of the collision and were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims were Darbara Singh, 63 of Yuba City; Joginder Ram, 63 of Yuba City, Balbir Kaur, 52 of Yuba City, and a 63-year-old female identified as ‚ÄėSiso‚Äô of Yuba City.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation; however it appears that drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been a factor in this collision.
