Two injured in rear-end collision on Interstate 5

A rear-end collision sent two individuals to the hospital with what authorities say were minor injuries.

On Thursday, September 18, 2014, at approximately 6:10 a.m. the driver of a 2010 Nissan rear-ended a 1997 Toyota on Interstate 5 just south of the Maxwell Overhead.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Jessel Starkey, 25 of Fresno, was traveling northbound at speeds in excess of 75 MPH when he collided with the rear end of the 1997 Toyota, driven by 37-year-old Mike Nguyen

Due to the force of the initial impact caused by Starkey, Nguyen’s vehicle to travel off the roadway and through a metal post barbed wire fence.

Subsequently, Nguyen’s vehicle came to rest, on its wheels, into a partly filled irrigation ditch.

Starkey’s vehicle came to a rest just north of where the collision occurred.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to Colusa Regional Medical Center.

Seatbelts were used by both parties involved which prevented injuries sustained from being more severe as a result of the collision. â–
