Distracted Driver Cause of Solo Vehicle Accident

A driver reaching for a compact disk on the floorboard of her car, was the cause to a single vehicle collision said the California Highway Patrol.

On Saturday, September 20, 2014 at approximately 3:53 p.m., Ceva Giumelli, 59 of Clearlake California was driving westbound on Highway 20 just west of Schaad Road, in a 2008 Nissan Versa at an approximate speed of 55 MPH.

As Giumelli was entering a left-hand curve, she reached down for a CD on the floorboard of her car.

According to the CHP, this distraction caused her vehicle to leave the roadway where it collided with a paddle marker, and going airborne.

The vehicle landed in a dirt orchard with moderate front end damage to the vehicle.

Giumelli sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Colusa Regional Medical Center. ‚Ė†
