Mushroom Sales Continue Grant Program Application Deadline December 31

At the close of the 2014  Certified Colusa Farmers Market early in October it was once again deemed successful; especially for non-profit groups that are now urged to submit applications for the annual Premier Mushrooms Inc. Grant Program.

The local mushroom growers have for the past  three  years donated mushrooms for sale at the farmers market. Proceeds of the sales are then awarded to Colusa County non-profit groups through grant program.

Any non-profit group in Colusa County is eligible for the grants of up to $250 each.

Market coordinator Lynda Reynolds and market manager Melissa Baikie-Rick deemed this year’s market a success and complimented Premier Mushrooms and its CEO John Ashbaugh for continuing to support this project.

“What I love about having Premier Mushrooms at the Colusa Certified Farmers Market is having such nutrient rich items made available to the community during the highest point of freshness and quality. I am so grateful to Premier for taking this opportunity to nourish its neighbors,” Baikie-Rick said.

“I continue to enjoy selling the mushrooms each year,” said Reynolds. Premier has been very generous to our market and especially to the non-profits in our county,” she said. “It’s a great partnership between community and agribusiness.”

“I cannot thank Premier enough for allowing the Colusa Farmers Market to showcase their wonderful mushrooms, added Reynolds.  “It’s and honor to be asked to participate in this very worthwhile cause and provide funding for our county’s non-profits,” she said.

“Premier is an awesome neighbor and an asset to our county.”

This is the fourth year that Premier Mushrooms Inc. has sponsored the grant program. Application deadline for the 2015 awards is December 31, 2014. The grants will be presented at the annual awards breakfast hosted by Premier Mushrooms Inc. in mid January when Ashbaugh will announce the award amounts.

Ashbaugh, an advocate of giving back to the community commented he is pleased with the continued success of this program. “It is a privilege to be a part of this program,” he said. “This has become a successful venture, and we hope to continue it.”

Ashbaugh added that Premier Mushrooms is grateful to be a part of the community and that it is a pleasure to give back however it can.
