New Mexican Restaurant Opens in Downtown Colusa

WPR - Don Habaneros (2)

For Alex & Grace Anaya, it’s more than just a business – it’s about providing an opportunity for their family, and entertaining with friends and family.

It’s no wonder the three-month-old; Mexican restaurant is gaining popularity.

Located in the old Gino’s Steakhouse building, Don Habanero takes a unique family style approach to Mexican cuisine.

As guests enter in the restaurant, they are greeted by friendly staff members as Alex makes his rounds welcoming everyone.

“I love to see people happy,” said Alex, “I invite everyone to come in and enjoy what we are doing.”

For over 28 years, Alex has worked in the restaurant business. His knowledge and experience in the craft helps him excel at customer satisfaction.

“I used to tell my family that someday we will have a real restaurant,” said Alex.

Alex, his wife Grace, and their daughter Elizabeth worked together and opened their doors in August.

“Before I worked in the restaurant business I used to work in the fields around Colusa County,” said Alex, “I came back and now call Colusa my home.”

Alex’s commitment to his customers is shown during lunchtime when many guests find it difficult to find a seat – opting take a to-go order with quick service.

“For lunch I offer great specials and fast service so that everyone can eat,” Alex said.

Open Monday – Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Offering both lunch specials and an extensive menu, Alex says his food is top quality.

“I use the best – freshest ingredients possible,” said Alex, “I want people to enjoy their food.”

Some customer favorites include the Fajita Burrito and the Mariscos Rancheros.

“The community has been very good to me,” said Alex, “I want to say Thank you to everyone for their support.”

Don Habanero is located at 221 5th Street in Colusa. To-go orders can be placed by calling (530) 458-3533.
